Today I’m sharing all about our living room with before photos, a mood board and inspiration for how we plan to makeover the space!
Let’s talk living rooms!
I think the living room is, along with the kitchen, the real hub of a home. Thankfully in the new place, the kitchen and living room are open concept making this the case even moreso!
So today I’m going to talk about all the plans for the living room! I’ll share photos of the living room as we saw it before we bought it, as it is now that we’ve moved in, what the plans are, a mood board and some inspiration we’re looking at as well!
Prior to selling our last house, we sold basically all of our furniture with the exceptions of our leather couch and beat up old coffee table.
We knew we would use the leather couch in the new house but it’s definitely too small for the new living room space so it’ll go in the game room instead.
We plan on getting a custom couch from Interior Define and have actually already been to the Los Angeles showroom to take a look around and see what we like but I’ll talk more about that process in a future post.
As for the overall living room design, here are a few adjectives I’d use to describe the style we’re going for: clean, simple lines, minimal, warm, functional and cozy.
Living Room Mood Board
Here’s a mood board I created to show the feel we’re going for.
This makeover isn’t going to happen overnight but I thought it’d be fun to give you updates along the way! On a lot of home makeover shows, these renovations seem to take two weeks and they’re done. I’m hoping this can be helpful as maybe a more “realistic” makeover for some of us!
We don’t plan on tackling this all at once, not only because that would be a big initial investment but also because I think it’s important to live in a space for a little while before completely changing it. Sometimes you have to get to know a room before you know what it needs.
So, we’re pretty much starting from scratch here and there’s a lot of things we need to buy, DIY and put together in order to transform this space.
Here’s a (probably incomplete) to do list for the space that I’ve made just to try to keep some semblance of order.
Living Room Makeover To Do List:
- buy new TV for above fireplace (going with a Samsung Frame TV!)
- paint entire room (Sherwin Williams Snowbound)
- paint media niche (Sherwin Williams Iron Ore)
- add shiplap to media niche (also painted Sherwin Williams Iron Ore)
- build and add floating shelves to media niche
- buy new couch (Interior Define)
- buy new coffee table
- art/decor
- replace carpet & tile with new flooring
- change overhead light bulbs to smart bulbs
- treatment to fireplace surround
- replace windows on back wall to panoramic sliding glass doors
Some of these projects will be done quickly while others will take time. I don’t anticipate changing the floors this year or replacing the windows on the back wall for a few years but I still think it’s important to consider these things in the overall plan as they will get done eventually!
In future posts, I’ll break down all the individual projects and DIY’s that we do throughout the process of making over this room. I hope you’ll follow along!
