Hi, I’m Kayla.
I’m pretty much the cook, eater, writer and amateur food photo taker here at Mince Republic. Some of my great loves in life are a perfectly ripe Avocado, good coffee, my French Bulldog Albus and the sport of hockey.
I’ve been luckily enough to play for Team USA Inline Hockey for four years, winning three gold medals and a silver in the World Championships. Being an athlete has played a tremendous role in me wanting to learn to cook and fuel my body with the best food possible.
My first experience with cooking was really a result of me doing Independent Study for high school. I was home alone all day and after the fifteenth batch of chicken nuggets, I was pretty much over it and knew I wanted more on my plate and in my life. So I set out to learn with the help of my mom, cookbooks and cooking shows on television.
My Cooking Philosophy
At the heart of it, what I really want is to put food on the plate that is both delicious and good for you. I like using high quality, fresh ingredients and I do my best to include plenty of vegetables in my diet but also occasional treats as well. As an athlete all my life, I realize the importance of food as fuel so I do my best to nourish my body. As they say, it’s all about balance.
What You Can Expect From My Recipes
Some of my recipes are long, some are short but I try to provide a mix of both because I think life calls for a little of both types of recipes depending on the situation. Sometimes you need something quick and easy, sometimes you need something a little more involved. The recipes on this site are meant to inspire your creativity in the kitchen and in your mealtimes.
Aside from cooking (and eating), I’m also really interested in online business and Digital Marketing which lead me to create my Blogger’s Resources series where you can find tips on How to Start a Blog, Using Trello for Content Management, etc.
If you’re new and not quite sure where to go, here’s a great place to start.
