Wow, the last week before the final reveal of our pool bathroom renovation!
It’s week five of the One Room Challenge (ORC) and I’m back for our final update before we reveal our room next week.
Just incase you’re unfamiliar, the ORC is a six week challenge to transform a space in your home and we’re renovating our pool bathroom. If you missed the other posts, you can read them here:
Week 1 – The Plans
Week 2 – Demo & Painting
Week 3 – Ordering Products
Week 4
You are here: Week 5 – Starting tile!
In case you forgot and haven’t seen yet, here’s a before photo of the pool bathroom:
Here’s the mood board for the direction we’re headed:
This week we were really focused on laying the tile floor in the bathroom which per usual ended up being a lot more work than we originally anticipated! To be fair, this was our first time ever doing any sort of tile work ourselves so it was just a learning process and there were a few things that came up along the way that had us scratching our heads for a bit.
The biggest issue was just how bad our floor looked after we demo’d the original tile. We ended up having to lay self-leveler to fix all the holes and divots left behind.
But alas, we learned a lot and we have now officially checked off “tile a floor” on the renovation skills list and it feels pretty good. Here’s a sneak peak of the floor and the process but you’ll have to wait until next to see the finished product (plus the tiled wall!).
So that’s where we’re at now and once we get the tiled wall up this weekend, we’ll add everything else back into the room!
Here’s our to do list with our remaining tasks:
- remove bathroom vanity and mirror And baseboards
- paint room snowbound by sherwin williams
- tile back wall
- tile floor(?) this is a maybe right now, not sure if we’ll pull up the existing tile and replace it, re-finish it, or use it as is
- replace sink
- buy new sink fixture
- replace light
- make shelves
- hang and decorate shelves
As always, thanks so much for following along! We’ll see you next Thursday for the big reveal! In the meantime, follow along on Instagram @mincerepublic where I share stories about the renovation.
PS. Happy Halloween!
